Compression Garmets

I’d like to know how long the compression pants last. I have 2XU long tights. I’m not sure they feel as effective now as they did a year ago.

Hi Megan,

I don’t wear traditional compression tights during training runs.  I wear adidas TechFit tights on some of my easy recovery runs.  These tights have taping in specific areas which helps with avoiding the osteitis pubis I have recently endured.

I also have some Skins compression tights which I wear under my clothes on the plane and have had them for a couple of years now.

It is a great question that you have asked and I don't think there is a simple answer.  Many factors can influence the durability of the garment, such as, the activity or sport being played, washing conditions (hand or machine, water quality, temp, detergent quality, drying temp), the acidity of your sweat and the quality of the yarn used to make the garment.

If you are using them all the time then you need to keep track of the miles completed in them and apart from the fact that most should have a 12month warranty, a general rule of thumb is they can be like running shoes and if you wear them as much as your runners then they may need replacing when you change your shoes or if you are a crazy marathon runner like me and change my shoes every 3 months then perhaps every 12months for the compression tights is a good idea!

As I mentioned I don’t train in them, I use them as a recovery tool so they last quite a while for me!

Happy Running!
